Mission
Phinney’s believes in keeping people and their beloved pets together.
We do this by extending a helping hand to pet parents in need.
We do everything in our power to make sure animals and their beloved owners can stay together – we educate pet owners, take their animals to the vet, help pay vet bills, foster pets when owners are hospitalized, walk dogs and help care for pets on a regular basis.
We are a volunteer-based organization. Would you like to volunteer? Contact us today!

History
Phinney’s Friends was founded in 1996 as an MSPCA program, in honor of Bill Phinney, a MSPCA Humane Law Enforcement officer who had to surrender his pets when he fell ill.
Originally, Phinney’s Friends assisted the pets of people battling HIV and AIDS located in the Boston area. Over the years, services expanded to include low-income people with disabilities and the elderly.
In 2009, Phinney’s Friends became an independent nonprofit, incorporating with an expanded mission, of helping any low-income person living in the Boston area who is at risk of losing their pets. Since then, Phinney's increased its coverage to the I-95 belt, later I-495 belt, and more recently to the entire state of Massachusetts.
Depending on the location of the pet owners who reach out to us, we may be able to help with in-home pet care or only with vet bills and boarding bills. Find out more about our history here.
