Yesterday Phinney's bought Sparkly a winter coat so she can walk the streets of Boston safely with her dad during the cold winter months. Your Giving Tuesday donation will do wonders for our cause! Hello, everyone. Giving Tuesday is here! And there are so many ways you can help. Make a Giving Tuesday gift Choose a one-time, monthly, quarterly or annual gift. And, believe us, no donation is too small. Whatever you can afford this Giving Tuesday will help make a world of difference to pets in need. For instance, $10 will buy a winter jacket for a dog in need, like the one we just sent Sparkly. $25 covers 2 months of food for a small pet. $100 means a pet can get the vet check and medication they need, and $500 can cover a vet visit and tests during an emergency. Become a Godparent Phinney’s godparents are a lifeline to pets Phinney's helps regularly. Your donation ensures that your godpet receives vet care, food, meds, and other needed supplies. And if you choose to become a monthly sponsor, you’ll receive quarterly updates on your Godpet! Visit phinneys.org/be-a-godparent to see pictures and read stories about the cats and dogs -- like Ethel, Roxie, Griffin and Miss Chevious -- in need of sponsors today. Join the Honor Wall Phinney’s Honor Wall lets you post a special message to celebrate and honor your loved ones. We can also send the honoree an acknowledgement note if you would like. Donations honoring a special person or a pet in this special way go to support Phinney’s pets and can help save a pet’s life. On behalf of the people and pets who rely on Phinney’s, we sincerely thank you for your support this Giving Tuesday! Our goal is to raise $5,000. With your help, we can make sure low-income pet parents won’t have to worry about how they’ll pay for their pet’s bills during the long winter ahead.

Little Wendy, a 13-year-old dog, recently needed 20 teeth extracted at Second Chance Community Vet Hospital in Worcester. With Phinney’s help, Wendy underwent a full-mouth extraction to prevent more infection and improve her quality of life. We are so happy we were able to help little Wendy and her mom, Catherine, who couldn’t afford the surgery on her own. Phinney’s also recently came to the aid of Molly, a 12-year-old Puggle mix. Her person noticed that Molly was struggling to eat. Food would fall to the back of her mouth. This made little Molly make some strange noises, which sounded uncomfortable and possibly painful to her. Tests at the vet’s office revealed several infected, loose teeth, and Molly needed immediate radiographs and extractions. While her person kept up on routine check-ups, she could not afford dental surgery. We are so pleased that we were able to help so Molly got the care she needed! Wendy and Molly are just a couple of the many lovable pets we have been able to help through Phinney’s Emergency Program. When you donate, you can help pets like Wendy and Molly get the immediate care they need to address what ails them. Make a donation today to help other pets like Molly and Wendy! You may remember Oliver, a ginger kitty and Elizabeth’s best friend. Elizabeth, a Phinney's volunteer who took Oliver in a couple of years ago when Phinney's needed to find him a loving home, bonded with him immediately. Looking at this pair's selfie, and thinking of the 15 years I've been volunteering for Phinney's, I couldn't help but tear up. I remembered so many of the smiling and eager faces, and the words of hundreds of people I've met who wanted to volunteer, donate, foster (like Elizabeth) — ultimately help in some way. They selflessly devoted their time to people and pets they don't know. They generously relinquished part of their savings to faceless people and animals in need. At times like these, in which we've recently witnessed and felt sadness, and maybe even anger at times, I look at my surroundings and marvel. Every day, I have the honor of interacting with wonderful, generous, kind people who just want to make this world better. And we all work together to help more wonderful people, who also work so hard to keep the pets they love. About dear Oliver, due to Elizabeth's health, she made the impossibly painful decision to re-home him. She thought it wouldn't be fair to him to be home alone for long periods, enjoying the care of her kind neighbors for days at a time. Oliver is now living with his new foster mom, helping her through her online yoga workouts, happy and safe. Like Elizabeth, she doesn’t need to worry about Oliver’s treatments and prescription food to keep his gastroenteritis and bouts of pancreatitis at bay. Phinney’s covers those costs through Friends of Tui Fund for Older Cats. Elizabeth says she misses Oliver terribly, but said "sometimes you just need to think of how much better off the pet you love will be" even if it means being with another volunteer. Elizabeth also told us that she is "so grateful to Phinney's for all the help" we gave her and all her pets over the years. This partnership has allowed her to enjoy the company of pets, but also has given Phinney's an opportunity to place pets who suddenly become homeless in the hands of one of the best people in the world. Well, that's how I feel about Elizabeth and Oliver's new mom. I am beyond grateful for their loving care, and for all the selflessness and kindess I've witnessed through Phinney's. Really, there are no other words: THANK YOU! I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving this Thursday, and again, thank you for being such an inspiration. Gift a Phinney’s Godpet’s ornament. Phinney’s can mail the hand-painted watercolor ornament to you – or anyone you choose (along with a personalized message)– or we can hang it in support of a Godpet you select on our Angels Tree, a majestic blue spruce on the grounds of The Pierce House Estate. Make an Honor Wall contribution for a family member, friend, colleague, customer or client. When you make an Honor Wall donation, you can write a tribute about the gift recipient and share a picture, too, as a way to memorialize your special holiday gift. So what do you say? Won’t you join Phinney’s in celebrating the holidays in one or both of these special ways? Your generosity will make a big dent in your gift-giving to-do list and you'll be helping people and pets who need Phinney’s help most during the holiday season. This year, Phinney's received a donation that made up for a major loss of a donor, who discontinued her business because of the pandemic. Because of that amazing gift, we were able to breathe this year and continue helping despite the disruption with our events. This donor thought of us when she wrote her will, and to her we will be forever grateful.
Leaving a lasting gift to Phinney's can help us sustain our mission of helping keep people and their beloved pets together long into the future. Phinney’s Legacy Program offers an opportunity for you to leave your mark in the cause of avoiding pet surrenders and preserving the happiness of pets and people who need each other. Through planned giving, you can designate Phinney’s as a beneficiary of assets. And we cannot thank enough the many selfless donors who bestowed their Legacy gifts upon us, expressing their love for Phinney’s while living and after. You can do the same, and Planned Giving with Phinney's is simple. To illustrate this, just take a look at the chart we’ve prepared below. If you have any questions about making a Legacy gift, we will be happy to talk to you and walk you through it. Just reach out to legacy@phinneys.org and we'll be in touch! We hope you’ll consider becoming a forever friend to Phinney’s! How can you not swoon over Man II? With his lustrous black coat, Man II is quite a debonair dude! And he’s been a special and lasting companion to his dad, Wendall, who gets cat food and cat litter deliveries from Phinney's.
Up until recently, Man II didn’t have any major medical emergencies. In April 2021, Man II had to undergo dental surgery, poor guy. Thanks to the generous support of people who sponsor Man II through Phinney's Godparents program, we were able to ensure he got the treatment he needed. Since having one lower Premolar and one molar root tip extracted, Man II now eats without difficulty or pain. Wendall calls Phinney's Friends “fantastic.” He said he appreciates all the help we provide for Man II, which includes regular vet checks and preventative care on top of the pet supplies. Man II has had some back leg pain, which might be arthritis, so over time, he might need more care. With the loving support of his Godparents, we know that Man II and Wendall can continue to get the help they need. Being a Godparent to Man II is an easy and caring way to make a difference in his life and Wendall’s life, too. He tells us that while Man II likes to be independent, he’s a steady force who helps tremendously when Wendall is anxious and stressed. Phinney’s has been invited to participate in the Lincoln Arts Show, and we'll be onsite at Lincoln's Pierce House from 12-5 this Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 6-7) to kick off our Angels Tree celebration! Join us to see the majestic blue spruce all lit up in support of Phinney's Godpets -- pets who receive regular help with food, supplies and vet bills thanks to generous donations. We hope you'll stop to say hello at our table at the arts show, where we'll be selling watercolor ornaments to take home, give to others or hang on the Angels Tree outside. We'll also be selling Department 56 ceramic houses. (While supplies last!) The proceeds we get at our table will benefit low-income people and their pets in need. Here's a sneak peek at some of the ceramic houses that may still be available: The Lincoln Arts Show will feature creations by Lincoln artists and artisans of all ages. The art, ranging from paintings and photographs, to pottery and hand crafts, will be for display or sale, depending on the wish of the artist. For more details, check out our press release. We're excited to be able to kick off the holiday season in such a creative and fun way, and we hope you can join us. If you missed last month's news, check out some of our most popular stories below!
